Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week 2026

From Mar. 9-13, the Calgary Board of Education is proud to celebrate Substitute Teachers' Appreciation Week. Substitute teachers play an essential role in supporting students, bringing energy, skill and care into every new environment they enter.

Every day, substitute teachers demonstrate flexibility and professionalism. They adapt quickly and maintain high expectations for learning. Their ability to step in with confidence and compassion strengthens our school communities and ensures students continue to thrive.

This year, we want to recognize the incredible range of experiences that substitute teachers bring to the CBE. Our substitute roster includes brand‑new teachers at the start of their careers, as well as retired educators and those teachers who continue to share their expertise in service of students. This rich diversity strengthens our classrooms, enriches learning and reflects the true spirit of community. Substitute teachers are not simply filling a gap — they are valued, meaningful contributors to the educational experience.

To all our substitute teachers: thank you for everything you do. You help make our schools stronger, our classrooms vibrant and our students successful. We are truly grateful to have you as part of the CBE community.
