Out students have been enjoying their outdoor time with the Yellow Steps Residency. We look forward to their continued work and their exploration of our surrounding community.

Spanish for Parents

Chinook Learning Services is the Calgary Board of Education’s provider of non-credit professional and personal development courses. This year, Chinook Learning Services will offer an in-person Spanish for Parents – Level 1 course that is taught at Dalhousie School by Jeanne Liendo. It is currently scheduled for Tuesday evenings, 6-8pm on the following dates: October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2026. In order for the course to proceed, they need to make sure that there are enough registrations. Our previous Chair and Vice-Chair have completed their terms, and we urgently need to fill these two roles so we can keep our fundraising and student supports running strong. If you've been looking for a way to give back to our school community, now is the perfect time to step in! ! As our chair, you’ll be the guiding voice, you’ll steer activities, champion our goals, and lead meetings as an impartial, non-voting guide. As our vice chair, you'll be a trusted partner to the Chair, review communications, and help our school community thrive. Orange Shirt Day

Wearing orange on Orange Shirt Day honours Survivors of residential schools, remembers the children who never returned home, and acknowledges the lasting impacts of residential schools on families and communities. The orange shirt is a symbol of the culture, language, identity, and freedom that were taken from Indigenous children, and a reminder that Every Child Matters. Dalhousie School will be acknowledging Orange Shirt Day on September 29. We invite students to wear orange on this day.

Video Surveillance

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

Photo Retake Day

Photo retakes will take place on October 13, 2026. We are looking for a few volunteers for the day to help with gathering our students. If you are able to help, please email Sra. Jackson at cgjackson@cbe.ab.ca.

School Absences

Please remember to call the attendance line to let us know of your student’s absence – 403 777 6030 ext. 1. This not only helps us as we complete daily attendance but is also a security concern in the case of emergencies. Just a gentle reminder to keep your students home if they are not feeling well.

Healthy Hunger – Fun Lunch

Our next fun lunch will take place on October 28, 2026 and will be offered by Boston Pizza. Fun Lunch orders for October 28 are due tonight at midnight on Friday October 23.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with handing out fun lunch. Even if you can only help for one hour, we’d love to have you! (Please note: A police clearance is required to volunteer).

Apple Fundraiser

Thanks to your incredible support, our recent apple fundraiser was a massive success, seeing a nearly 20% increase in boxes ordered for a total of 286 boxes! That is amazing! Now, we need some extra hands to help distribute all those apples on September 29 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Note: Volunteers must be comfortable lifting and carrying 15 lb boxes.

Staff Snacks

Ready to spoil our favorite educators? Pick a week that works best for you, get creative with your favorite homemade or store-bought treat, and drop it by the main office to brighten our staff's day!

Dalhousie School Council

Dalhousie School Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email to dalhousieschoolcouncil@gmail.com. The School Council and the Parent Society will meet on Oct. 8, 2026. At the beginning of the meeting, the Grade 6 team will do a short presentation.
