Dear Dalhousie Families,

It was another fantastic week of learning and fun a la Escuela Dalhousie! We loved seeing the spirit and variety of teams during our Wear Your Favorite Jersey Day. Great display of our community's passion for various sports and teams!

Thank you to all who attended our School Council and Parent Society meeting. Your involvement is deeply appreciated. We are pleased to share that we will be moving forward with the purchase of two Gaga Ball Pits and three Pointers Funnel Ball games. Our sincere gratitude goes to our Parent Society and to the entire school community for supporting the fundraising efforts that made this possible. We anticipate installing these exciting additions to our compound by mid-May of 2026, just before our traditional Family Fiesta.

A quick update on our Mural Project. The project is on pause until February 2026. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the creative concepts our artist-in-residence will propose to our students!  We appreciate your continued support and look forward to even more great projects and ideas to make Dalhousie School fun and engaging for all our students!

Please also remember to book your child's Parent-Teacher Conference before Wednesday, November 26th, as conferences will be held next Thursday, November 27th, and Friday, November 28th (note: Friday is a non-instruction day, meaning no classes).

Principal

Traffic Safety from the City of Calgary

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.

Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.

Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

School Parking Lot and Alley

Please be advised all parking stalls have been designated as staff parking. Do not enter, stop, or park in the parking lot during the school day.

An empty spot at any time during the day does not mean a stall is available for non-staff parking. If you choose to “just be a minute” in our lot, you may be preventing someone who works in the school with your children from getting to their job on time.

If you choose to park in the alley, please park only on the school side of the alley and make sure that you are never parked directly across from a garage or parking pad and that you also leave a 1.5 meter zone clear of the sidewalk, entrance to our parking lot, from either side of garages and parking pads to the other side of the alley.

If you park in the alley, please walk your child to the fence entrance near the daycare building to gain access to the playground before school or walk around onto the Dallyn Street sidewalk to gain access to the front door; do not cut through the parking lot.

Drop-Off Protocol

When you are dropping off or picking up your child(ren), please give yourself an extra few minutes to find a safe place to park on the side streets. Parking rules apply to stopping as well, even for just a few minutes; please be respectful of our neighbours and ensure that you never park in front of or too close to garages and driveways. Parking along the school side of Dallyn Street is designated for buses only on school days.

As safety of children can be compromised by unsafe drop-off/pickup, we continuously monitor our parking lots and traffic around school times. We need your help to provide a safe place for our students to walk onto the playground or into the building.

  • Dropping off students in any CBE parking lot is prohibited.
  • Do not walk children through our school parking lot.
  • Please walk around.
  • A safe and quick alternative is to drop students off in the alley by the before and after care building. This way they can access the playground which is supervised.

Be safe. Slow down.
