Querida familias,
I hope all of you have remained safe and warm with the fresh snow on the ground. As the weather changes, a reminder to ensure that your students come to school properly dressed for the weather, as our outdoor routines will remain the same for the season. As well, please remind your students that while it is fun to play with the snow and build a variety of structures, throwing snow at each other is not acceptable.
Grade 1–3 Swimming
Our grade 1-3 students will be participating in the Swim to Survive program with the City of Calgary on October 26-29, 2026. Thank you to those who have signed up for volunteering during the week. We continue to seek male volunteers to help during this week. Please contact the office if you are able to help and have clearance.
Traffic Safety
We continue to monitor our traffic flow during drop off and pick up times. As a safety precaution, we remind families that the safer place to cross the street remains in the crosswalk at the corner of the street. Please share the video below with your student as a safe way to cross the street. How to Cross the Street: A Guide for Kids
Drivers, please ensure that when you park, you respect the neighbors’ properties by not blocking driveways or garages. As well, if you use the Hug and Go zone, please do not park your vehicle in this zone. Students are expected to load and unload quickly so that the traffic continues to flow. In addition, please remember that this is a no idling zone. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Provincial Screener Results
As you are aware, schools are required to conduct literacy and numeracy screenings to all kindergarten to grade 5 children and students. Over the next week, you will receive the results of the literacy and numeracy screenings for students in Grade 1-5. Results from the literacy and numeracy screenings are intended to help teachers identify and address gaps in their grades 1 to 5 students’ foundational understandings of literacy and numeracy. Please note that Kindergarten screenings occur only in the Winter, therefore no results are available at this time.
Halloween Parade
Students are welcome to wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30, and we will also be organizing a small Halloween Parade that day. If students choose to dress up, please remind note the following expectations to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable day:
- Costume independence: Students must be able to move comfortably in their costumes, participate in the regular school day, independently use the washroom, and manage getting dressed and redressed themselves.
- No treats or food: Families should not send treats for classroom sharing, as we are unable to distribute food or treats at school.
- No masks: Students may not wear masks at school.
- No toy weapons: Toy weapons, including swords and knives, are not permitted.
- Limit handheld accessories: Students are discouraged from bringing items they need to hold, such as wands or shields, as these can make participation in learning activities more challenging.
- Age-appropriate costumes: Costumes must be appropriate for young children, with no gore or frightening, graphic details.
Thank you for helping us ensure that Halloween is a fun, inclusive, and safe experience for everyone at school!
K-2 Dance Residency
Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 will be participating in a dance residency through DancePl3y from November 2-5. Each class will participate in one 45-minute session per day over the four days. Please make sure your student wears comfortable clothing that will allow them to move comfortably over the week.
Remembrance Day
We will be commemorating Remembrance Day on November 10 at 10:45 am. This will be a school-only assembly as we do not have the capacity in our gymnasium to have additional guests. If your child is a member of cadets, scouts, guides and would like to wear their uniform on this day, they are welcome to do so.
Lunchroom and Field Trip Fees
Parents, please be aware that the noon supervision registration is open. If your student stays at school over the lunch program, please register at MyCBE / CBE Student Information System portal As well, all school-based fees will be populated in this portal as events happen. Please take note of the fees to pay them in a timely manner.
Change of Plans and Busing
We understand that plans change, and there are times that you need to pick up your students instead of them taking the bus. We ask that you please email the school atdalhousie@cbe.ab.ca to let us know. If you need to make changes past 1pm (Monday to Thursday) and 11am on Fridays, please call the main office to let us know. The school email inbox is checked several times over the day, but a phone call will ensure that get the information in a timely manner.
School Absences
Please remember to call the attendance line to let us know of your student’s absence – 403 777 6030 ext. 1. This not only helps us as we complete daily attendance but is also a security concern in the case of emergencies. Just a gentle reminder to keep your students home if they are not feeling well.

Dalhousie School Council
Dalhousie School Council helps connect parents to the school and provides additional learning opportunities for all students. There are many ways to get involved that do not require you to hold a position on council. If you would like more information about getting connected or volunteer opportunities, please send an email todalhousieschoolcouncil@gmail.com. The School Council and the Parent Society will meet on Nov.3, 2026 at 6:30 pm. At the beginning of the meeting, the Grade 5 team will do a short presentation.
