General Health Measures
In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.
Routine Immunizations
The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.

Please contact the office if your child will be absent or late. For more information about our policies, see our Attendance page.
Severe Allergies
Please make sure that the office and your child’s teacher are informed of any allergies that may affect your child’s health and safety. We want to bring to your attention that our school has several students with severe allergies, and we would greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us ensure their well-being.
We cannot legally guarantee a nut-free environment, so we must remind both parents and students about the possibility of nuts causing severe allergic reactions in some people. We encourage all to be sensitive to this issue. Children are also reminded to eat only what they bring and not to share treats in case of allergies. As a caring school community, we must be aware and vigilant around the variety of severe allergies that many of our students have, the most common one being peanut and nut allergies.
Parents of students who have a severe allergy should complete a Student Health Emergency Response Protocol form (to be completed annually). It is our procedure at Dalhousie School to ask parents at the beginning of the school year to provide the office with an extra EPI-Pen, asthma medication, or any other medication that your child(ren) may need in the event of an emergency.
Please read The Calgary Health Region's guide on Planning Nut and Peanut-free Meals and Snacks for additional reference.
Injury
The safety of all children is extremely important to us! Safety rules and consistent expectations help us to ensure the well-being of students, staff, and visitors. All of our staff members have First Aid training. Minor injuries will be dealt with at school, and parents will be informed of any incident either by a phone call or a note in your child’s agenda. If a more serious injury occurs, parents will be contacted immediately, and appropriate actions will be implemented.
Health Concerns
Medical information is completed at the beginning of each school year. If your child’s medical condition changes during the year, please update their information at the office and with your child’s teacher. If your child has an Epi-Pen or an asthma puffer, we need to be informed. Inform the school in writing of any special health concerns regarding your child/children. This is most important in the case of allergies and when students are unable to participate in physical activities. Where prescription medication is to be administered by school staff, the following two forms must be completed and submitted to the office.

Medication
For children who are taking any form of medicine at school, medical forms must be filled out annually. Parents of children who have an EpiPen as part of their emergency response should contact the office immediately to fill out these forms and provide us with an EpiPen to be kept in the office. Please also make sure your child’s teacher is aware of any such allergies or medical concerns immediately via phone call or email. Medication is not to be kept in backpacks under the care of a child.
Lice
There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.
As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
